I never tire of painting these birds that can appear in a variety of moods: graceful, serene, happy, or goofy. Anyone who sees their almost neon colors can't help but smile. In Sarasota and the surrounding areas, spoonbills have made their home, nesting on tiny mangrove islands throughout the bay. Their return to this region reflects the resilience of both nature and community efforts to protect coastal ecosystems. With their vibrant presence, these birds offer a reminder of the beauty that thrives when we preserve the delicate balance between land and sea.
